John Barnes Myofascial Release

What Is Myofascial Release?

Myofascial release is a gentle and extremely effective technique founded by John Barnes which focuses releasing tension and restoring mobility of the connective tissue woven throughout the body, which is called fascia. When an area of the fascia becomes restricted and immobile, it is called a fascial adhesion. Myofascial release applies a very slow, gentle pressure and stretch which allows the fascial adhesion to soften, release, and become more mobile again. This technique is especially beneficial for chronic pain and tension caused by injuries, structural alignment issues or repetitive motion (examples would be sitting at a desk typing every day, repeated lifting of heavy equipment, or playing a sport where specific muscles are consistently used). Myofascial Release is a technique that can be done alone or in combination with massage.

Typically, a client will see a marked improvement in the relief of pain and release of tension within one to three sessions. For best results, try to schedule your first myofascial release appointments with no more than two weeks between, and rest if possible after each appointment, refraining from any heavy lifting the following day
